The international conference titled “Navigating Complexity and Change in the Balkans”, jointly organized by Ibn Haldun University, Turkish-German University and New York University of Tirana, took place on December 5-6.
In the opening session, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Kemal Bozay, our President Prof. Dr. Atilla Arkan, Rector of Turkish-German University Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız and Rector of New York University of Tirana Prof. Dr. Ali Güneş gave speeches.
The conference, hosted by Turkish-German University, where our department faculty member Idlır Lika was in the program coordination team, aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive analysis of the processes of change in the Balkans by bringing together academics and experts from relevant fields from Turkey and abroad.
In his opening speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Atilla Arkan referred to the close relations our University has established with the Balkan geography and drew attention to the importance of the Balkan experience in terms of international relations. Our Rector wished the conference organized by three universities to be productive for all participants and thanked the rectors of the University of New York Tirana and the Turkish-German University for their cooperation in this important event.
The main topics of the conference were political stability, economic integration, social transformation and regional cooperation. Sessions aimed to provide a multidisciplinary perspective on social, economic and political changes in the Balkans. In-depth analyses on the historical background, current situation and future of the region were presented to the participants with current research in this field. Opportunities were offered to develop academic collaborations and expand academic networks at the international level through the event, which was attended by academics, researchers, policy makers and professionals working in related fields.
