Our Academicians Discussed the Humanitarian Crises in Palestine and Ukraine Comparatively at the MPSA Conference
Assist. Prof. Sümeyye Uyar and Res. Assist. Mustafa Yıldırım presented their paper on the selective nature of international responses to humanitarian crises in Palestine and Ukraine, and how these responses are shaped by geopolitical factors, global power dynamics, and national interests, at the 82nd Annual Conference of the Midwest Political Science Association.

Our academics from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Assist. Prof. Sümeyye Uyar and Res. Assist. Mustafa Yıldırım, presented their paper titled "Selective Humanitarianism in International Responses to Humanitarian Crises: A Comparative Study of Palestine and Ukraine" at the 82nd Annual Conference of the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA). The conference took place from April 3-6, 2025, at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago and online in a hybrid format.

In their presentation, Uyar and Yıldırım comprehensively analyzed the selective nature of international responses to humanitarian crises. Through the examples of Palestine and Ukraine, they examined the geopolitical factors, global power dynamics, and national interests that shape humanitarian aid and interventions.

The paper discussed the differing international responses to these two crises, addressing the prioritization of certain crises over others and the ethical dimensions of such selectivity. Additionally, it explored how humanitarian aid is shaped within a political context. The valuable contributions of Uyar and Yıldırım provided important insights into the political aspects of global crises, international relations, and humanitarian efforts.

We congratulate our academics and wish them continued success in their future research.
